Sledged by thine termite...

"Termite's are like little engineers, they'll keep everything standing, but if you mess with it, it'll all come down."
That is what our builder friend told us, as I had just uncovered a rather important stud cluster which had been eaten by termites. Apparently the weight on that stud was approximately about 3 tonnes worth of tiles and roofing structure... So structural carpentry work, which at its lowest cost, was ridiculous.

When we found that, I had made an incision in a wall for a new doorway to be placed in, and since we found that, we couldn't continue until the area was made completely stable.

Have an image...
There he is, isn't he an expensive fellow.... He has really hacked up our plasterboard, and had to be reminded where we were putting doors in, quite a number of times. He then continued to not completely finish the job properly by not nailing down new framework, and making the new framework not the right size, on one end.... But anyway... He did it and he left, that was good.. It's stable now, and that's what matters after all..

It was about this time that I decided, that I'll need to be doing most of this type of work myself.. the cost of it all, was just insane.

Excuse my rant.. I've been dealing with his annoying framework just recently and I'm finding multiple things not straight which stuffs up all my measurements.. mmmmmmm

Join me next time in securing the structure further by digging a trench...

Introductions to THINE SLEDGE!!

AMAZING!!! You've found your way here!!

The place where I shall be subjecting you to mine Sledge...

Today we will be looking at all of the renovations.... so far...

SO lets start

Here is the house.. Isn't it lovely.....

WRONG!!!!

At this point in time; it is full of termite excretions, there is concrete randomly all over the backyard in some very strange places, those windows that we can see in the image need to be replaced because of termite and rotting issues, the cladding is a horrible colour, trees are pushing over different concrete retaining walls, the back shed and the back additional hallway are full to the brim with asbestos.. hmm.. And oh so much more!! :)

Let the fun begin......

First things first, We removed the front 3 windows, a ridiculous and expensive exercise (but I did learn how to remove windows and replace them with nice new ones) We found that the window frames on 2 of them had been eaten by termites at some stage.

Here is a Picture..

Or two..

Done.. All three windows at the front of the house are now replaced.
There was a beam in the ceiling of the lounge/kitchen area that had been eaten out by termites, see involved picture..

Next, I had the great idea to find out whether the peers underneath our house were at a similar level too each other, turns out, they weren't, so there you go....

This also introduced us to a whole range of NEW little issues that could turn into large issues quickly such as; Drainage around the house, it seems that water was moving underneath our peers which in turn moved the dirt and the level of the peer itself. Mould issues, so we need a "Whirly bird".

ETC

To be continued....
